Hello everyone and welcome to the Origins of Carol Danvers that is the real name of the upcoming superhero movie by Marvel, Captain Marvel. For you general fans out there who just want a little back story on who she is then here you are.

Now this is purely a Carol Danvers origin story as there have been many Captain Marvels throughout the years, but we are focusing on just the one.

Carol Danvers first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1968, she would be introduced in the comic 'Marvel Super-Heroes'. She was an officer in the United States Air Force and a Security Chief in a restricted military base.

Danvers would meet Dr. Walter Lawson, the alias of Kree Captain Marvel. Kree are an alien race that look just like Humans but for the small difference of having blue skin. They are very strong and need much more nitrogen to breathe steadily.

As the stories progress Carol Danvers is a victim of an explosion from a Kree device, Captain Marvel saves Danvers but she is drastically injured. During the explosion Danvers and Captain Marvels DNA were mixed, which in turn gave Carol Danvers superhuman abilities making her a human-kree hybrid and giving birth to Ms. Marvel. Which became a series with the same name in Marvel Comics.

Danvers had appearances in The Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Defenders and The Thing. During the 1970's it was a large step for the women’s movement, that instead of Mrs, it was Ms and she would make noise about women’s rights, including equal pay for women when she wasn’t fighting aliens.

Throughout the 80’s Carol Danvers featured in a storyline which saw her taken hostage by a man named Marcus and taken to an alternant version of earth, he would later brainwash Ms Marvel and have a child with her. This storyline met worldwide criticism for constituting rape. This story was undone by Marvel and instead Danvers instead returned to earth leaving Marcus to die in the other dimension. She would then go on and give up the title of Ms. Marvel by erasing her existence from government files and

Whilst on a mission in space along with the X-Men she was captured and experimented on by an alien species called ‘The Brood’. As a result of the experimentation she was given a new set of abilities, one of which allowed her to collect power from a white hole and release energy with the same strength as a star. She donned the new alias ‘Binary’, as Binary she clashed with super groups such as; The inhumans, The Avengers and the team Excalibur.

During the 1990s Danvers main storyline had her lose the powers of drawing from the white hole creating energy. She still retained the powers of absorption and energy manipulation, just on a far lesser scale than before. She reverted back to using the set of abilities she had as Ms. Marvel but took up the alias ‘Warbird’. As Warbird marvel dove deeper into the psyche of Carol Danvers and storylines would take her down the path of real-life issues like alcoholism. During this time, she would dishonour herself in the story ‘Live Kree or Die’. Have a read of that comic to see how she dishonoured herself.

Heading into the 2000s still as Warbird she re-joined The Avengers and took part in the Kang Dynasty story, During the storyline she would kill a villain named ‘Master of the World’. As a result of this Carol Danvers asked to be court-martialled, she was found innocent as it was an act taken during a war and was fully justified. She would later leave The Avengers as it disbanded.

The first time Carol Danvers would take up the mantle of Captain Marvel would be during a time where Scarlett Witch created a alternate reality, this would see her prove to be the most loved superhero in the world. After the arc she would return to the name Ms. Marvel once more.

As Ms. Marvel she took part in the Civil War between warring heroes. She would be pro Superhuman Registration Act and fight along side Iron Man against Captain America's anti-registration heroes. She also at a later date agrees to take on the leadership of a team called Operation: Lightning Storm. Their mission was to take care of supervillains before they could cause world threats.

She had some smaller appearances and storylines after this but her main one would be her last act as Ms. Marvel in the ‘Secret Invasion’.

This is where we end this instalment of the rapid origin story of Captain Marvel. There is much more to Carol Danvers but her last act as Ms. Marvel before becoming Captain Marvel is during the Skrull invasion. Since that seems to be the storyline of the upcoming movie, I won’t continue as I do not want to spoil the main story arc by revealing the comics version of events.

Hopefully this has giving you a little back story on Carol Danvers. There is a lot more to the stories I have shared, purposely I have not told you exactly what happens in case you do want to go and read the comics for yourself. I have just given you an outline of the characters stories.
